Ceylon Barista Academy: Training Skilled Baristas, Creating Opportunities

A great cup of coffee starts with a great barista, and being a great barista goes far beyond simply making coffee. It requires the right knowledge, confidence, teamwork, communication skills, and the ability to create a great experience for every customer. This is the foundation on which Ceylon Barista Academy was built.

We started the academy on 23rd August 2025 with a simple goal, to develop skilled and well-rounded baristas who can grow and build careers in the coffee and hospitality industry.

Our journey started from our experience as franchise partners of Barista, a globally recognised coffee brand with a growing presence in Sri Lanka.

We came to understand that finding trained baristas alone was not enough; there was a need to develop and shape well-rounded barista professionals. This realization became the foundation for Ceylon Barista Academy.

From the beginning, we wanted our students to learn more than just coffee preparation.

That is why our training goes beyond the coffee machine, giving students a complete understanding of coffee and barista skills, teamwork, leadership, customer service, basic financial knowledge, café operations, workplace practices, and career development.

Our goal is simple. To prepare our students not just for their first job, but for a successful career in the coffee industry.

Our aim is to develop skilled and capable baristas with the confidence to excel both behind the coffee machine and in a professional workplace.

From our first batch to where we are now, we have proudly produced around 300 trained baristas into the coffee industry. Our students come to us with different goals, some want to improve their skills, some want to start a career in coffee, while some want to use this skill in doing a part-time job when they go abroad for higher studies, and others working towards the goal of opening their own cafe.

One of the most rewarding parts of our journey is seeing our students grow in confidence and take their next step into the industry. Today, we are happy to see many of our students working in local cafes and hospitality establishments, as well as overseas.

Ceylon Barista Academy has grown to establish two branches, in Nugegoda and Kurunegala (TVEC Approved)

We also keep our classes small, with only 10 students per batch, so our lecturers can spend more time with each student and give them the attention and support they need.

For us, it is not just about training more people. It is about helping each student learn, improve, and become confident in what they do.

We are proud of how far Ceylon Barista Academy has come and are excited to continue this journey by training more passionate people and creating more opportunities in the industry.
